My Workout Routines!

Running

  • 10 km, 8 km running, 2 km walk
  • If you are just starting off running, start very slow/short
  • Stretch!! I got horrible shin splints because I didn’t stretch
  • Don’t overwork, that’s another reason I developed shin splints 
  • Find a good playlist
  • Running outside is best, especially if you do not have access to a gym or treadmill
  • Try hills, they’re hard but build endurance
  • Stairs: I love finding a staircase outside and doing 15-30 up and downs for a heart rate boost at the end of a run, or instead of a run some days
  • I run for track and cross country, but running in general is great cardio and is one of the best stress relieving exercise methods to clear the mind 
  • If running is too much, hiking or going for walks is a great place to start 

Other cardio

  • Machine free; many people do not have access to a machine for cardio
  • Hiit is great is you need something quick and hard, my favourite is madfit hiit workouts, she has so many videos that can be found on youtube, she also has hiit routines that are apartment friendly (no jumping/noise)
  • Hiit can be fast and effective, combine jump rope with variations pushups, situps, and other staple exercises tones you and boosts heart rate at the same time.
  • Machine use
  • My favourite machines are the elliptical and stationary bikes. 
  • Elliptical: i have a bowflex elliptical in my house and it has a 14 minute fast program you can do if your on a time crunch or want an effective quick cardio, but if I have time, I like to use the elliptical for an hour give or take. 
  • Also have the zwift cycle trainer that attaches to your bike and can be used as a program on your computer. This is for pro cyclers, and I use it as a cross trainer for my track sport
  • I just recently purchased zwift and I love it! Riding with other cyclists is amazing and an exciting and motivating way to workout. 
  • I highly recommend these two machines

Weights/toning

  • Many girls are focused on ab and butt exercises, but you cannot spot reduce fat unfortunately, and although doing ab workouts helps, cardio really speeds the process and also overall makes you feel so good. 
  • I recommend combining cardio with toning workouts, for the way you feel, the results you get, as well as the quality of the workout
  • I have experienced many weight training workouts,  and tried many youtube ones
  • I have experienced that cardio along with ab workouts has really helped me, and I’ll share the other routines that have really helped

  • Pamela reif 10 minute ab (different from sixpack workout)

  • Madfit 20 minute total core

  • Melissa wood health is a good simple toning workout (her 60 min ones are a good full workout)
